Deuteronomy 12:28 “Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.”
You’ve seen it, maybe a few times: the speaker speaks and then BOOM they drop the mic and walk away. The point is they are making is that it’s settled, its finished. Right now, there are lots of people working very hard to pick up the mic and change a lot of things that God has dropped the mic on a long time ago.
I love the book of Deuteronomy because it is about looking back and learning from the past, looking forward and being ready for the future and looking up and being guided by a very good God. God was leading His people to the Promised Land. For us that promised land represents not Heaven but the victorious Christian life right here on Earth. In the promise land they would be building and battling for victory and there is none of that in Heaven.
God told His people that rather than look back into Egypt, or looking around to the people they lived near, or even looking within to what they wanted to do, they were to look to Him to know what was right and wrong and what they should do. God has spoken on what is definitely, truly, and eternally right (and wrong) then He dropped the mic. He wrote it down in the Bible so we wouldn’t have to guess or wonder. There are lots of voices talking nonstop about how they think we ought to live, but there is one unchanging standard of living “that which is good and right in the sight of the Lord thy God.” (Deuteronomy 12:28)
