Matthew 9:36-38 “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
Several months ago I was in Springfield, Ohio, on a hunt for something to eat. We had just finished church, and I was famished! I drove to a Raisin Cane’s Chicken, eager to chow down. It was very disappointing when I walked up to the door and it said, “Closed early due to staffing shortage.” I went to two more restaurants and finally talked the last one into letting me order, for they were trying to close down early too!
I have talked with several employers and all of them have expressed how hard it is to find anyone willing to work these days. They also say that when they do find someone they usually have their own interests they want the employer to work around.
I wonder how Jesus feels when He sees the disinterest of His children in His work? It broke His heart in Matthew, and I am sure it does now!
Teenager (or anyone else Reading), Have you ever told God you would do whatever He wanted you to do? Why not begin praying and asking God to show you what He wants? I believe with all my heart that God wants every Christian to work in the harvest of souls! Let’s get fed up with the statement that “10% of churches does 90% of the work!” Let us all pray and do our part, so there is not a workforce problem because of us!
