Hebrews 3:5 “And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;”
Epic is a word that is currently way, way, way over used. When something is truly Epic, it means that it is so extremely huge, so extraordinary, so life altering that it will be talked about for generations to come. Jesus was Epic. World War II was Epic. The missionary journeys of Paul were Epic. By contrast the latest Hollywood movie is not epic, nor is the just-a-bit-bigger than average fun outing.
Recently, I was made aware of a modern day account of what I consider to be epic faithfulness. A pastor, who works in planting and reviving churches in rural parts of the state of Maine, recounted the story of a dear elderly sister in the Lord who has faithfully maintained her closed church building for fifteen years. Yes, you read that right, fifteen years and the church is closed! No pastor, no congregation, and the last church service was held there in 1999! She has mowed the lawn, swept the floors, kept the heat and electric on, all with the hope that one day, a new church would start there. Can I just say, WOW! For fifteen years, she worked and prayed and remained faithful. That is longer than some of you reading this devotion right now have been alive!
I’m sure she got tired, but she didn’t give up. I’m sure it cost her dearly in expenses, but she didn’t give up. I’m sure there were times when she felt what was the use, but she didn’t give up! On August 3, 2014, a new church with a new pastor would once again start holding church services in that building, and it’s only possible because of one very faithful lady.
God doesn’t require us to be fancy, just faithful. I encourage you to throw yourself into your church and youth ministry and stay faithful to the Lord. It will be worth it all when Jesus returns!
