I guess the first time I read this statement in Ecclesiastes I was a little offended at Solomon. He said, “All women are the same. They’re all deceitful, conniving, out to use people and get their own way at the expense of others. Women are heartless and selfish. I’ve been trying to find one that’s different, but it’s hopeless. You may find a man now and then whose heart is kind and his motives are pure, but you couldn’t find one good woman if you searched through a thousand.” My first thought was,” That’s not a fair statement. He wrote that thousands of years ago, and he didn’t even give me a chance!”
As I grew in the Lord and understood more about the Bible , I realize that the book of Ecclesiastes is the heart-cry of man who has given up on life. He’s been looking for satisfaction and fulfillment outside of the will of God, and found that everywhere from a human viewpoint, without the grace of a God and leadership of the Holy Spirit to give meaning and purpose to life.
No wonder he laments, “I have seen all the work that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.” (Ecclesiastes 1:14) In the midst of his dead-end search for the valuable things in life, Solomon was loving for a good woman, and he said there were none to be found.
Solomon was not only one searching for the right kind of lady. The Lord used him in the book of Proverbs to impart godly wisdom to all the generations to come, and in the final chapter we see the lovely picture of the “Virtuous Woman” or “God’s Ideal Lady”. Here we find a portrait that pictures exactly what God thought a lady ought to be.
God’s crowning beauty and final touch to the whole of His wonderful creation was a pure, lovely, virtuous, godly lady. I believe the Lord lets us see her just what He had in mind when Said, ”It is not good that the man should be alone I will make him an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18) Proverbs 31, God’s blueprint for feminine godliness begins with this statement. “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” (Proverbs 31:10) To find a lady of this character and quality is to find a precious and priceless treasure, that is stated very emphatically. But who can find one? Even God said that this kind of lady was ‘few and far between’. We need to follow this ladies example and learn from the principles that the Bible states about her.
