2 Kings 18:31 “Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:”
We have two kings: One very good, Hezekiah of Judah (read verses 1 to 7), and the other very evil, Sennacherib of Assyria. Sennacherib wanted Hezekiah to cave to his demands by making him a really sweet sounding offer. The problem was that it was a lie. Sennacherib was an evil man who was a picture of the devil. The Devil wanted to make a deal with Hezekiah, and this relates to us because he wants to make the same deal with us, and it’s a BAD deal. Before we look at four specific lies of the Devil’s Deal, I want to just point out the timing of the Devil’s Deal: It came at a bad time. The Devil does his dirty work when things are going bad and your discouraged or depressed. He rarely comes when things are going well. Another thing is that the Devil will mix some truth in with his lies. In verses 21 and 33 to 35 he straight up tells the truth. This makes things very confusing. Now there are four lies in the Devil’s Deal:
1. That you have No Hope (vs. 29)
2. That even God won’t help you This Time (vs. 30)
3. That you will finally Have Rest (vs. 31)
4. That it’s all going to be Just Fine (vs. 32)
Don’t you believe him! The Devil is a liar and a deceiver and the Devil’s Deal is only good for him. Too many people are taking the devil’s deal and committing suicide, doing drugs or getting involved in all kinds of things they shouldn’t, and the result is always the same: devastation and destruction. Tomorrow we are going to look at What Do We Do when the Devil wants to Make Us a Deal?
Never Accept the Devil’s Deal for your life
