“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”
Jesus said in the verse above, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” The problem has never been if people can get saved, the problem has been getting believers to the harvest before it is gone. Jesus dealt with the lack of laborers to reach the harvest in His day, and we still have the same lack of laborers to reach the harvest today. One of the greatest reasons that people don’t try to reach the harvest is because they don’t see the harvest as God sees it. The verse above reveals several reasons why people can see the harvest.
First, you will never see the harvest when you look on the physical instead of the eternal. The disciples said in verse 33, “Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?” The harvest of a soul was right before the disciples, but they could not see the harvest because they were concerned with the physical. You will never see the harvest when your eyes are focused on the physical. When your concerns are with the things of this world, you will be blinded to the harvest because the physical blinds a person from seeing the eternal needs of the soul.
Second, you will never see the harvest when you live for your will. Jesus said in verse 34, “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me…” You will never be concerned for the souls of mankind when you live for self. You must die to self and live in the will of God in order to see the needs of the eternal harvest.
Third, you will never see the harvest when you look at life through timeless spectacles. The reason the disciples couldn’t see the harvest was because they couldn’t see that the harvest was almost past. My friend, we don’t have a lot of time to reach the harvest. Jesus said the harvest is “white already to harvest.” There are souls in your city that need to get saved and are almost past their harvest time. If you don’t look up to see the fields that are white already to harvest, you will miss the urgency of reaching the lost for Christ.
Fourth, you will never see the harvest looking down to the immediate. The reason Jesus told the disciples to lift up their eyes was because they were looking at the needs of the immediate without any consideration that God could take care of every need they have. Let me warn you about getting so wrapped up in your immediate needs that you don’t lift up your eyes to see the harvest of souls in this world. As long as you are wrapped up in your hobbies and personal desires and problems, you will never see the great need of the harvest.
Fifth, you will never see the harvest through the spectacles of negativity. You will never see nor try to reach the harvest if you believe the harvest can’t be reached. Stop thinking that certain people can’t be reached, and try to reach everyone. Stop trying to go after a certain “class” of people and realize that every soul must be reached. Every person whether rich or poor has a soul that must be reached with the Gospel.
Let me ask you; do you see the harvest the same way the Saviour sees it? There is a great harvest in need of every believer getting involved. Don’t let these five things keep you from seeing the need for your involvement in the harvest.
