When God Got Fired

1 Samuel 13: 10 “And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.”

I remember working through college at Chic-fil-a. I never got fired, but
I did have to let some people go in my time there. There were employees who stole, cussed or were late for work that had to be let go for their behavior. They were given multiple chances, but after 3 or 4 times of them not doing what was expected of them, they were fired.

In I Samuel 13, Saul was expecting the prophet to show up and speak to the people on behalf of God. When Samuel was delayed, Saul decided to take matters into his own hands. He fired God and took His job. Saul entered the priest’s area and offered an offering. Being under persecution (5-6) and pressure (7), Saul became impatient and took his life into his own hands.

Does it seem like God is late in your life? Maybe He isn’t showing up in a situation that you have asked Him about? Perhaps you have been thinking of just stepping out and doing your own thing like Saul. Not sin, but just doing things your way. That is exactly what the devil wants. The devil doesn’t want you to burn candles and wear black. He wants you to do what you want to do, as long as it is not what God wants you to do. Don’t fire God. Give Him another chance. Surrender your life to Him. He is a good boss.
