Here we read the story of Jesus going to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. This particular night, was the last time Jesus would enter the garden of Gethsemane. What did Jesus get from the Garden? (vs. 39,42,44) Jesus got surrender from the garden. He prayed “Not my will, but thine be done” Luke 22:44 says that he prayed so earnestly that his sweat was as blood. Intense surrender to the will of God. Gethsemane was a spiritual place. Gethsemane was a place of surrender. Your church a spiritual place. Your church is a place of surrender to the Will of God! It’s like the Garden. What will you get from the Garden?
1. What Did Judas Get From the Garden?
Silver and Set Free. (47-49) He was in The Garden of Gethsemane, the place of Surrender, but he got Silver. He stood where Jesus prayed the prayer of surrender, yet he just wanted set free. What have you taken from the garden? You are in this place of surrender, but you are only concerned with popularity, your looks, your clothes, your money, having things, stuff, or your reputation.
2. What Did Malchus Get From the Garden?
Sliced. (51) There he was in the place where Jesus has just surrendered to the Father’s will. What did Malchus get? SLICED… he got wounded, hurt, damaged, and injured. Don’t let this place of surrender become the place you get sliced.
3. What Did Peter, James and John Get From The Garden?
Sleep. (40,43,45) While Jesus is sweating great drops of blood in his prayer of surrender, they are SLEEPING! Don’t sleep so much you miss God’s will.
4. What Did The Disciples Get From The Garden?
Sinful. (36,56) This group that had said they would be there till the death, turns tail and runs. At the same place where there was Surrender there was Sin. Church is a place of surrender. A place where many will find God’s will, don’t get sidetracked by sin.
I think we ought to reexamine our surrender to the Will of God. Are you surrendered to the Will of God? Have you prayed about what God’s will is for life?
