II Chronicles 15:4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto theLordGod of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.”

There can be no argument that America is currently in trouble. We have been guilty of what God warns nations about in Psalms 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” On August 13, 2014, Professor William Jeynes (California State College – Long Beach) Senior Fellow at the Witherspoon Institute (Princeton, NJ) spoke at the Heritage Foundation (Washington, DC). In his speech he mentioned how three United States Supreme Court decisions during 1962-1963 has had a major and negative impact on our nation. Those three rulings removed public prayer and the Bible from our schools. According to Professor Jeynes he states that, there have been “Five Negative Developments In America’s Public Schools Since 1963”.

Those five things are…

1) Academic Achievement Has Plummeted Including SAT Scores

2) Increased Rate Of Out Of Wedlock Births

3) Increase In Illegal Drug Use

4) Increase In Juvenile Crime

5) Deterioration Of School Behavior

a. Top Five Teacher Complaints About Student Behavior (1940-1962)

i. Talking In Class
ii. Chewing Gum
iii. Making Noise
iv. Running In The Halls
v. Getting Out Of Turn In Line

b. Top Five Teacher Complaints About Student Behavior (1963-Present)

i. Rape
ii. Robbery
iii. Assault
iv. Burglary
v. Arson

God help America! While none of this is new or surprising it certainly validates what we’ve known all along. Hosea the prophet made a cogent statement in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” While we often focus on verse six, in order to understand how the Jewish people did what they did we must read verse seven. Hosea 4:7, “As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.” God tells us that as people “increase” or get more “stuff” (e.g. money, toys, ease of living, etc.) there is a natural tendency for those individuals to sin against Him. It’s real simple…when you are broke and broken you need God. When you are fat and comfortable you don’t need Him as much (check out the Laodicean church in Revelation).

In II Chronicles 15, Asa is the 6 th King of Israel/Judah. He is the Great Great Grandson of King David. Asa reigns over the Southern Kingdom (Judah) after his Grandfather (King Rehoboam) split the kingdom into two (Northern-Israel; Southern-Judah). When you get to verse three you will see Judah has been without three things. IIChronicles 15:3, “Nor for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.” They were without the true God (JEHOVAH). If God is your Parent’s God, you won’t last long on your own. If God is your Pastor’s God, you won’t make it very far. If God is your Youth Pastor’s God then you won’t survive this Christian battle against the World, the Flesh, and the Devil. You need to know that He is YOUR GOD! The second thing they were without was a teaching priest. Thank God for every preacher God has put in your path. Your Pastor, your Youth Pastor, a visiting Evangelist and a Missionary.

Titus 1:3 says, “but hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour.” God uses preaching so you should love BIBLE PREACHING! The last thing Judah was without was the law. You can’t have happiness living outside the law. God says in Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Now here is the good news, regardless of what a nation or an individual has done, if we meet God’s requirements we can be reconciled, restored and “reblessed”! II Chronicles 15:4 says, “But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.” It’s real simple, any time we find ourselves in trouble all we need to do is TURN UNTO HIM.
