John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
On July 4, 1776, America became a free country, but there is greater freedom than the freedom we enjoy as Americans. We have freedom in Jesus Christ. He promised to make us free indeed.
In 1961 I went to West Germany, during the building of the Berlin wall, to preach to people with risked their lives to gain freedom from communist East Berlin. I told them that there was a greater freedom than that of escaping from communism, that they could have freedom from the tyranny of sin by receiving Jesus as their Savior. Those of us who are saved are free to serve God, and, in America, we are free to go to church and worship Him.
Some years ago, while I was in a meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, a man from Russia gave his testimony. And his testimony he said that when he was a boy his family had were shipped in the basement with clothes stores and covered windows because they did not have freedom of worship. One night the KGB broke in and arrested all the men present. His father was among them, and he never saw his father again. We should not take lightly the freedom we have in America, but our greatest freedom is in Jesus Christ.
