Matthew 25:1-13 “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be liked unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at the midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”
In this parable there were 10 virgins who were preparing for the bridegroom to appear. Five were wise and five were foolish, but why were the five foolish? The reason that the five were foolish was because they did not prepare. Young person, don’t be like the foolish virgins and not prepare for your life. As a teen you should be preparing for what God has later in your life. He has a specific plan for your life, but it is up to you to prepare for that plan. Benjamin Franklin once said,”If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” This is true, and as a teenager it is important that you plan for the future. Some people say that a person will make the most important decisions in his life in his twenties and thirties, but I contend, that a person will make the most important decisions of his life as a teenager. It is during the teenage years that one builds the foundation for the rest of their life, so it is so important that you are making the right decisions now so that when you are faced with some tough decisions later in life that you have Bible principles established in your life that you may fall back on. Young person I adjure you, Prepare. Take time now to prepare for what God has for your life by daily walking with Him, reading your Bible, and having a time for prayer.
“To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.”
