Psalms 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven”
God’s Word is settled in Heaven, and it is also settled on earth. By the Word of God the worlds were formed (Heb. 11:3). Jesus was the Word in the beginning (John 1:1-2). Later, holy men of God, moved by the Holy Spirit, gave us God’s Word in written form. That Word has been preserved through the ages, and today we have it in bound copies that we call the Bible.
For centuries enemies of the Word of God have tried to discredit it, but all their efforts have failed. They will also fail in the future. The Word of God is settled in Heaven and it cannot be destroyed. Well has an unknown poet written:
The Blacksmith’s Anvil
Last eve I paused beside a blacksmith’s door
And heard the anvils ring the vesper chime.
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers worn with beating years of time.
“How many anvils have you had?” asked I,
“To wear and batter all those hammers so?”
“Just one,”he said with a twinkling eye.
“The anvil wear the hammers out, you know.”
And so, thought I, the anvil of God’s Word
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon.
Though the noise of falling blows was heard
The anvil is unharmed – the hammers gone.
