Psalm 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
David often hid in secret places in the mountains when Saul was trying to kill him. There was always the possibility that Saul would find him in some hiding place, so he looked for a better hiding place and found it in the most High God. By faith he could abide under the shadow of the Almighty, and there would be no more moving and looking for a better hiding place.
Like David, we have an enemy. The devil is trying to destroy us. There is no earthly hiding place where we can escape from him, but, like David, we have a shelter in the most High. There we can abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
In verses 1 and 2 of this Psalm, God is called by four names. He is called the Most High, the Almighty, Lord, and God. There is no mistaking who is our shelter and protector. We have an abiding place in the Most High. That is were we belong. We are not simply to visit God when we are in trouble. We are to abide with Him every day.
