2 Samuel 6:9 – “And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?”
Have you ever had someone unfairly or unjustly insult your character or conduct? Hurts, doesn’t it! Let me give you an example of this that really helped me. We have a little dog named Tippy – love her to pieces! The pooch has never wanted for anything and is cared for in every way; never abused and loved beyond measure. And yet every time I go to put the leash on her she cowers down, slinks back and looks at me if I was about to beat her. That’s insulting. I would never intentionally hurt her because I love her. The Lord used that situation and the Scripture we read today to really speak to my heart that sometimes I insult God like David did. David, while trying to do the right thing, did it the wrong way and that brought consequences. God didn’t hate David nor was He being mean or abusive. David tried to do God’s work the way the heathen did it and it didn’t work out. God’s work must be done God’s way because God is God and He is Holy and Right. When we break His commands or go against His ways He is not being abusive when He corrects us. If anyone ever had no right to accuse God of abuse it was David. God was really good to David. Just like God has been really good to you and me. The lesson to be learned from this story in the Bible is that there are consequences when we don’t do things God’s way but that is no excuse to blame God or insult God. God loves you and He cares for you and He watches over you. Let’s be careful to give Him the loving respect He deserves.
