John 12:26, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”

Servant Saturday is a great way to get the teens involved in serving. Many times, teenagers want to be involved, but there are certain things that hinder them. My wife and I thought of Servant Saturday to give our teens an opportunity to do something for Christ. We had our annual Family Conference coming up and we saw that the church needed a good clean to get ready for the conference. We announced Servant Saturday for a month and promoted that there would be pizza and a Scavenger hunt at the end. I thought it would be a good idea to balance the activity with something they enjoy. We cleaned everything you can think of, from the buses to ceiling fans, from kitchen to Sunday school rooms and auditorium. We gave the building a good make over. It was a great success.

I’ll be honest, we did not have the amount of teens show up that we have had in past activities, but we had the teens that wanted to do something for the Lord. Not only that, but we had an awesome spirit. There’s just something special about a group of teens getting together to accomplish something for the Lord. It brings out the best Christian spirit you will ever encounter. My wife and I, at the end of the activity, said to ourselves that it was by far the best activity we have had. Not because of the pizza and scavenger hunt, but because of the spirit the teens had while serving together. This activity also allowed them to be a part of something big. Our Family Conference is the biggest conference we hold here in our church, and many parents and adults give time and money to this cause. Although our teens could not support the work monetarily, they could support the work voluntarily. Hence, this activity was a way to show the teens that they were needed and we couldn’t have had the success without them. Teenagers love to feel they are needed. From now on, we have decided to use this activity for special projects such as car wash, cleaning, mowing property, etc., because we have found that this has brought out the best spirit in teenagers. It teaches them to serve the Lord in their capacity.
