Raise The Bar Of Standards

1 Thessalonians 4:4 “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;”

A limbo stick, for those who don’t know, is a long thin stick held up by two poles on either side of it. People attempt to walk or roller skate under the stick while trying not to knock it off the supporting polls. The limbo stick gets lowered down farther and farther to see who can go the lowest without knocking it off. If you are old enough, and honest enough, you probably have the limbo song playing in your head right now.

I have noticed a troubling trend in youth groups over the years that instead of the “spiritual teens” bringing up the “carnal teens”, it seems to usually work out that the opposite happens. If one young man decides to go casual dress on Wednesday nights, then shortly thereafter more and more teen guys go casual too. The same holds true for the young ladies. Someone pushes the envelope of what is acceptable farther and farther to see just how far they can go without getting into trouble. That is not how your God wants you to live. Just because one, or two, or even if most of the teens around you are on a downward path to worldliness and carnality, that is not what Jesus Christ, your Saviour, has in mind for you.

The old hymn of the faith says it best, “I’m pressing on the upward way, new heights I’m gaining every day, still praying as I’m onward bound, Lord plant my feet on HIGHER GROUND.” God does not want you to use a limbo stick to set your standards of Christian living! The God given goal of every Christian teenager is to set the bar of Christian living and godly actions higher and higher every day in every area of your life. Don’t go down with the crowd, go Up with Jesus!
