Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
One of the happiest days of my teenage life was the day that I pulled into the gas station in the little town that I grew up in with my very own car, filled the tank up with Ultra Premium Gasoline and paid for it with my own money. I don’t know how my head fit back into the car as I was smiling from ear to ear!
On a gas pump, there are usually three levels of gasoline you can select: Regular, Plus, and Premium. Each higher grade of gas has more octane in it, and it makes your car run a little better or cleaner. However, the higher the grade of gas the higher price you pay. Every time you pull up to the gas pump, you have to make a choice, and when you do, you push the little button that says: “Push to Start”. Some people automatically pick the cheapest gas possible which is Regular and never consider upgrading to a better level of gas for their car. However, there are some people (like me) that look at the price of gas each time I fill up and decide if the Plus or Premium is cheap enough to buy that week.
By now, you are probably wondering what this has to do with you, especially if you don’t have a car yet! Imagine if every time you had to make a choice, you had to actually push a button and choose what level of Christianity we wanted to live at: Regular, Plus or Premium. There is no “choice pump”, but you do make choices every day as to what type of Christian you want to be. Most of the time, people automatically choose to be a “Regular” Christian as it is the easiest and cheapest way. I want to challenge you to actually think about the decisions you are making and choose the higher Christian life – it is worth the investment.
