Joshua 7:1 “But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.“
BAM! The hoist stopped with a loud clang as the hook caught on a ceiling beam. There I was, hanging by one hand 13 feet off the floor. The hoist had stopped two feet from a set of rollers that would have killed me instantly. Hanging there, I realized that my left index finger now had an 8 inch long and 1 inch thick hook going through it.
One of my co-workers and I had been playing with the 2-ton speed hoist that day. We each would hang on while one would slowly hoist the other up into the air. This time, the chain slipped, and within two seconds, I nearly died. I had to be rushed to the hospital where they managed to put my finger back together with thirty stitches on the one side and 14 and on the other. The injury did heal over time, but it was very painful. It affected everything that I did; like opening doors, getting dressed, and working. Many years have passed since that day, and I still have a long scar that prevents my finger from fully closing against my hand.
Your life can be changed in one instant by one bad decision. One lie, one wrong choice, one moral mistake, one time of disobedience. At the time, I thought, “What could go wrong?” The truth was- a lot could go wrong. Sometimes it’s hard to see the danger in our choices. We see others choose that same path and nothing bad happens to them. That’s why God gave you the Bible, His divine instruction manual for life. He has also given us parents, grandparents, a pastor and a youth director. These people have walked where you have walked. Listen to what they are telling you. Ask them for advice in the decisions of life. Because in life, one small choice can forever change your life.
