More Precious Than Gold

Psalm 19:10 “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
To get the context of the passage, we have to go back to verses 7-9. Law, testimony, statutes, commandment, fear, and judgments are words that are synonymous for the Bible. The “them” in verse 10 refers to those words used for Scripture. God’s Word should be desired more than gold, yes, more than fine gold. To choose a bag full of gold over the Book full of truth is a poor choice. That means the learning of truth is more valuable than the earning of gold. In our society great value is placed on money. To be sure, God is not against us having money but He is against money having us. It is not money that is the root of all evil; it is the love of money. We keep this in check by realizing there are many things more precious than money. When a Christian has a choice to either work or be in a church service and they choose to work, that is a poor choice. Young people, you will spend the rest of your life making a living for you and your family. Do not pass up opportunities now to learn truth in order to earn gold (money). You have time to go to summer camp; go. You can either be in church on Wednesday evening or work a few hours; be in church. You will soon be in college and possibly have to work evenings and miss church; do not do it now when you do not have to. What God’s Book will do for your soul is worth more than what money can do for your bank account.
