Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”
In John 8, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus who was taken in the act of adultery. They had a judgmental and condemning spirit. They wanted Jesus to have her stoned to death for her sin. However, Jesus said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” They were convicted by their own conscience and left one by one. Jesus then said to her as she stood alone with no accusers, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.” Has someone’s sin or mistake hurt you recently? Do you find yourself thinking about their sin and feel hatred and a condemning spirit within yourself? Have you come to the place that you feel more righteous than they are; that your sin isn’t as bad? Has your love for them changed? When you mess up, fall into sin, make an inappropriate comment, get caught up in a lie, or your hidden sin is found out, uncovered, do you want a friend like Jesus to come alongside you and say, “I know you messed up and are sorry. I’m here for you. I still love you?” Or would you rather be judged, condemned, and treated with hatred? “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.” Proverbs 10:12 The Bible tells us that love covers ALL sins, not some sins! Jesus’ love covered the woman’s sin we read about. Matthew 7:12, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them:” Proverbs 17:17a, “A friend loveth at all times…” Proverbs 17:9, “He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter seperateth very friends.” Will you be a friend to someone today that has fallen and needs to feel someone’s love cover their sin and shame?
