Prov. 28:13 “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
Many have asked, “Why are youth departments so unspiritual these days?” The truth is that the problem today is the same problem that it has always been and always will be until Jesus comes back – SIN. We can blame everything else under the sun, but the real issue is SIN. Teenager, if you are not living for God, it’s no one’s fault but yours. You have allowed sin into your life, and it has hindered your walk with God. So, you ask, “How do I get the victory over sin?” Well, I’m so glad you asked!! God, in His Bible, gives us the answer to that question.
First, take some comfort that everyone has the same problem. The Bible says that we have all sinned and that we are all tempted with sin. The devil will try to tell you that you are the only one who feels this way, you are the only one who struggles with this issue and that you should give up even trying to walk with God. Don’t listen to the devil!
Second, you need to follow God’s plan to deal with sin. Remember, God created you and He knows how you can get the victory over sin. In Proverbs 28:13, God gives us the three step process:
Don’t Cover Your Sins. Many times we will dig the hole deeper trying to cover up what we did wrong.
Confess Your Sins
Confess your sins to God. Be blunt, be honest. God can handle it. God is just waiting for you to be honest with Him!
Forsake Your Sins
To forsake means to abandon, desert, disown, or give up. Once you have been honest with God and restored your broken relationships with people, you need to leave that sin behind. Get away from the places, the people, and the things that cause you to fall into sin and temptation.
