Invest in the Best

Matt 25:14-18

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

Here Jesus tells the story of the Master that is leaving his estate for a time. He probably has no children; hence he leaves his servants in charge. He calls the 3 servants that he has invested the most time, money, training and care into. Let’s look at the scripture here in verse 14.

14- For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

***The Master Called HIS Servants

He had hired, paid, trained, fed, clothed, and watched over them. They were HIS servants.

***The Master Delivered Them His Goods

The Master gave those servants all he had. He held back nothing. He gave it all.

15- And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

***Every Servant of The Master Was Different

The Master gave one servant 5 talents, one servant 2 talents, and one servant 1 talent. The talents or pieces of money were given based upon potential.

***The Servant Was Sent Away With No New Instructions

Notice here. The Master never tells the servants what to do with the talents. Not a word.

Could it be that the Master expected them to have learned that from being with the Master all those years? Could he have thought they would have “picked it up”? Maybe he hoped they caught what he taught.

Regardless, we know the story. The Master leaves and the servants put to work what was given in their heads, hearts and hands.

16- Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

The servant with the 5 talents went and traded or worked, put to use, made profitable, displayed his knowledge, obedience, service, and character and he brings back 5 more talents. WOW!

17-And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

The servant with the 2 talents went and shopped, negotiated, put to purpose, made successful, displayed his understanding, balance, work ethic and morality and he brings back 2 more talents. WOW!

Now we come to the third servant, this will be our focus tonight.

18- But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

The servant with the 1 talent went and dug a hole and hid the money. Because he did not use it, nothing came of it and he brings back only the 1 talent he began with.

Are we not like these servants here tonight?      Christians…. Church…. Teenagers….

14- For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

***The Master Called HIS Servants

He had hired, paid, trained, fed, clothed, and watched over them. They were HIS servants.

Church: Remember when the Master called you as one of His servants.  PTL.

Think about all He has taught you, all He has done for you, blessed you with.

The life he saved you from, the things he changed about you.

He called you as one of His Servants!

***The Master Delivered Them His Goods

The Master gave those servants all he had. He held back nothing. He gave it all.

Church: Hasn’t God delivered the Goods? Hasn’t He always taken care of us?  Is His Seed begging bread?  Are the Righteous Forsaken? NO WAY JOSE!    God delivers the Goods!

Look at all He has done for this church, for you personally, for your kids, and family.

God delivers the Goods! AMEN!   God is so good to us.

Church: We are all different. You are all different. God made you that way. Your personalities are different, style different, abilities are different and the service you do for God will be different for each of you.

But God has a Book, a Blood and Blessed Hope that will never differ for anyone.

Church: Did you get it? Our Master left us some Marching Orders. The Bible is still the same. Has not changed, will not change. Matt 28:19-20. It’s called the Great Commission. It is repeated in Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20, and Acts 1. He meant business. Our Business is Souls. There aint no business like Soul Business.

Did you catch it?  Did you get it?   Did you pick it up?

The Master Called HIS Servants

The Master Delivered Them His Goods

Every Servant of The Master Was Different

The Servant Was Sent Away With No New Instructions

We are much like those servants. Tonight though, I want to focus on that 3rd servant. I want to talk to you about why I believe he chose not to invest.

18- But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

This servant took the money and buried it in the ground. I said he deposited it in dirt.

I said he smothered it with soil. I meant he immersed it in the Earth.     He covered it with crud.

I guess I could say he invested it into this world.  (Think about that now).

This servant LITERALLY put all that His Master had invested in him into the world.

WHY?

I believe it’s the same reasons many Christians invest what God has done for them in the world.

I. FEAR

This servant was afraid of losing the talent. Afraid of making a mistake. Afraid of not being able to see an immediate result. Full of Fear instead of Full of Faith.

So instead of trusting in what His Master had taught him, he invested in the world.

I know you all are scared. You don’t know about the future. I understand.

I know you don’t want to mess up, fail, make a mistake, wrong decision, etc. I got that.

But don’t take all that has been given to you, and invest that in the world.

Step out of the boat, live by Faith, and watch God do amazing things. He Can! He Can! He Can!   HE WILL!

Hey you all used to believe that. Do you still? Christians?   Are you walking with Him?

Are you investing your time in Bible Reading and Prayer or have you dug a hole in the world too?

Too many people invest their lives in television, hobbies, work, music, internet, fun, partying,  etc… instead of God’s Will.

II. FREEDOM

While those other servants were running around trading and working and buying and selling and going on, I wonder what this guy was doing.

Now that he had invested what the Master gave him into the world, he didn’t have to serve the Master.

So he didn’t.

I see it over and over. August will make 10 years. I’ve been a Preacher. Young and old alike! They take what God, Godly parents, a Godly church, a Godly home, a Bible, and a wonderful life has brought them, and they invest it in the world.

They buy into the world’s lies, and the world’s looks, and the world’s sin, and the world’s attitude.

People will trade Godly purity, separated life, and convictions for carnality, worldliness and pleasure.

WHY? Because if they invest in the world, they don’t have to serve the Master.

If I put my life, my heart, myself, my hands, my career, my heritage into the world, I don’t have to serve God.

Sure I can look like I am, but I don’t have to, because my investments are not there anyway.

If I don’t invest in God’s will it makes serving God an option. If I want to, I can, if I don’t, I don’t have to.

Isn’t that true? Where our treasure is, there will our heart be also?

Why aren’t you serving God? Why aren’t you telling others about Christ? Teaching a class? Running a bus?

YOU CAN’T!   No time, no desire, no energy, no funds….

Ohh! But you can invest yourself into the world’s activities pretty good! Maybe cause you have invested all of yourself into the world.

You had the choice, you made the choice. Your choice is not having to serve the Master that is so good to you.

God help us.

24-Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

III. FLATTERY

Here the servant tells the Master at the Judgment, I knew thee. What pride! What arrogance! What selfishness! What modern day  2010 Christianity!

The third reason I believe this servant invested in the world was flattery.

He was so full of himself. He had all the answers. He knew what was best. He knew what he should do. He knew better than the Master himself!    DO YOU SEE THAT!

Oh friend, this is where we live tonight. Why do people take their Christian heritage and throw it to the world’s trash, because they think they know more than mom, dad, the Preacher and God put together.

Why do adults get angry when you preach on worldliness?  Why do they get uncomfortable when you mention music, movies, immodest clothes, piercings, pornography, gossip, jealousy, envy, anger, hatred, alcohol, tobacco,

Why do so many people make wrong decisions…?   THEY THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL !!!!!!!!!

I KNEW he said. I KNEW. I KNEW.

IV. INVEST IN THE BEST

Let’s think back again to all God has given you.

That is yours.  God has given it to you. Mom and Dad have given it to you.

The Church has given it to you. Those helpful people have given it to you.

You can be have full of fear and self flattery and seek freedom and invest all that in the world.

Go dig a hole out somewhere in this world and invest in this wicked world.

OR

You can Invest in the Best.

You can take all that you have been given and you give your life to God. I’m not talking about Salvation.

I’m talking about surrendering your life to Christ. Giving your all to God.

Saying “God, I am yours. I will do what you want, when you want, how you want”

Some of you adults used to be surrendered to Christ. I remember.  Be honest tonight.

When was the last time you prayed to God and said?

“God, I am yours. I will do what you want, when you want, how you want”

Oh to God there would be some people who would decide tonight, to Invest their lives in the Best!

Lets Stand.
