October 11, 1970. \u00a0My father, Robert Ross, was 30 years of age when, on this date, he surrendered to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. \u00a0He had been saved four years earlier. \u00a0From the day he was saved, he helped the preacher, served the church, witnessed whenever possible, soon taught Sunday School \u2013 whatever was needed he wanted to serve. \u00a0 Then the day came when God tapped him on the shoulder and said, \u201cGive your life to me. \u00a0From this day forward, I want you to be a preacher.\u201d \u00a0He stepped out, accepted the call, and never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


August 7, 1979. \u00a0I was 17 years of age, recently graduated from high school, plans of my own making, heading into life. \u00a0Then God tapped me on the shoulder and said, \u201cGive your life to me. \u00a0From this day forward, I want you to be a preacher.\u201d \u00a0I wrestled with God for about 24 hours, then publicly surrendered to preach \u00a0\u2013 stepped out, accepted the call, never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


April 26, 2011. \u00a0I held my daddy\u2019s hand as he breathed his last breath. \u00a0His soul slipped away, upward, but away. \u00a0Forty years of preaching, praying, and pastoring was finished. \u00a0In that time he was \u201cstedfast, unmovable, always abounding\u201d. \u00a0 \u00a0Upward and away, a faithful voice now silenced. \u00a0A few days later, I stood behind the pulpit and preached his funeral. \u00a0Preached \u2013 because that is what I had been called to do. \u00a0 Today. \u00a0Maybe today, God will tap some young man on the shoulder. \u00a0 Maybe today, someone will hear that still small voice saying, \u201cGive your life to me. \u00a0From this day forward, I want you to be a preacher.\u201d \u00a0If God calls you to preach, step out, accept the call, then never look back \u2013 well, with one exception. \u00a0Look back and thank Him as you remember this now special and important date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
