Ezekiel  22:30-31  “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD. “

Let me give you some background about this verse.

Ezekiel the prophet is to judge the city of Jerusalem.

The capital city of God, which at this time is known as the city of bloods because of all her crimes. The sins which had invaded Jerusalem include murder, idolatry, disobedience to parents, oppression of the poor, extortion of the rich, profanity, disrespect of the holy days and holy things, adultery, fornication and all sorts of lewd sins. The unmindfulness of God being at the root of all this wickedness. As Jerusalem is filled with all that sin, God is filled with judgment. It seemed as if everyone was living for themselves, for riches, for success, for prosperity, and for sin. Even the so called Christian people were more concerned with the world, sin and pleasure than with the things of God. Then in verse 30 there is a call for someone to stand out, step up and represent God to the land. Someone to make up the hedge. The hedge representing the boundaries that God’s Word had set. God was seeking someone in this new generation to set up the Old Paths. Someone to live the way God wants them to, not the way the world leads them to.

God also sought someone to Stand in The Gap. The sin of Jerusalem had made a huge gap in the life of the people. God knew the only thing that could help the people is to have someone to stand in the gap between where God is and where the people have fallen. Someone to represent God to those people. Someone to reach them, someone to teach them, someone to witness, preach, live godly, do right. God’s search ends however, in a very sad manner. After scanning through all the people. All those who had been taught the Bible, had known the God of Heaven, were blessed by God, were used by God. Yet among the millions that God had took care of and invested in, God found none. NONE. Of all the people that God had in His land, All that had been taught, all that had been blessed. God found NONE!

As sad as this story is, we today are in the same situation. America, once a nation under God, built on the Bible, is now filled with sin and unrighteousness. Invaded by the killing of unborn babies, the fornication of young people, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, Rebellion, disobedience to parents, disrespect to authority, Ungodly music, wicked movies, sensual dress, a love for money, a love for self and a love for pleasure have poisoned our generation. Even the so called Christian School, Christian Youth Departments, and So called “Surrendered to Christ” teenagers are more concerned with the world, sin and money than with the things of God. Week after week, sermons are preached by me, by Preacher, by other preachers. All searching for someone to make up the hedge. A teenager to go where the Bible says. Someone to live in the way the Bible says to live, using the Bible as a hedge or a boundary for life. God looks for teenagers to help make up the hedge. Preachers beg and plead for teenagers to stand in the gap. As the world gets farther and farther away from God, He looks for someone willing to stand in that gap between God and man. A teenager willing to walk with God and then reach down to the fallen men to stand in that gap, pulling sinners closer to God. Yet, I’m afraid God’s search ends just as it did in Ezekiel. God leaves a service saying, I found none. NONE.

It is almost as if God is saying I’ve searched through all those Christian teenagers, I’ve looked for someone to make up the hedge, someone to stand in the gap… But among all them I’ve invested in…I found none. Now, I just have one question for you. When it comes to making up the hedge, standing in the gap….If not you, then who? If its not going to be you, tell me who you think its going to be?  If not you, then who?
