How to Make It

II Tim 4:1-10 (Vs. 7-8) “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

I remember when I was in Bible College, a preacher came and preached a sermon I will never forget. It is still fresh in my mind. I don’t remember the points word for word, but I remember the theme of the sermon.

It was basically, “Why Most Of You Are Going to Fail”. I was a freshman. I had left my home church, left my youth group (where I was the leader), left my parents, and came to Bible College, and now here is this guy telling me I am going to fail. WOW! What an encourager! I thought it was a terrible Bible College sermon. I thought it was discouraging, upsetting, negative, wrong, inappropriate and it flat out made me mad. I often look back to that sermon and IT WAS discouraging, upsetting, negative, wrong, inappropriate, and hurtful. BUT IT WAS ALSO TRUE! I think back to those who attended CBC during my years there. I can think of many who aren’t in God’s Will right now. Some left after a semester. Some were kicked out. Some quit with just a few credits to go. Some graduated. Some are in the world and in sin. Some occasionally attend church. Some are laymen. (Which is Great), but God had called them to the mission field, evangelism, and to preach. I used to ask myself why did they quit. Why did they fall? How do you graduate and not serve God? I used to preach a lot on why they failed and how.

Today I want to help you. I want to tell you How to Make It.

I.     You’ve Got To Grow

I Peter 3:8 “Finally, be ye all of one mined, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:”

People who don’t want to grow cannot be helped. I know, I know you are the next Jack Hyles. I know you can preach better than Spurgeon. I know you can sing better than Ira Sankey. I know you can win souls like Curtis Hutson. I know you can teach like John R. Rice. But you are here to learn.   NEWS FLASH:  YOU DON’T KNOW IT ALL! When I first came to Bible College I thought I knew it all. I could preach. I could teach. I could win souls. I could run a bus. But I knew there was more for me to learn. This is time for you to grow. You want to make it. You’ve got to grow.

II.     Find a Way to Follow

Be a follower. In the Bible  you will learn about Follow ship. You cannot be a leader until you are a follower. Sometimes you will think you know more than the pastor…..Follow. Sometimes you will disagree with a  rule or a decision….Follow. Sometimes you will notice leaders are not perfect…Follow. If you make it…one day one of your followers will think they know more than you, what will you want them to do? One day one of your followers will disagree with one or your rules, what do you want them to do? One day people will notice you are not perfect, what do you want them to do? If you want to make it, Find a way to follow.

III.     Get Ready to Get Hurt

Truth is offensive. Some sermons, some counsel, some direction will offend you. People are offensive. Some personalities, some words, some actions, will offend you. Since life is truth and people, often in life there are times of offending.  Let me help you with how to deal with being hurt. Whether it’s a church member, a boyfriend  or girlfriend, a friend, bus kids, bus parents, Preacher, students. Let me tell you how to deal with being hurt. GET OVER IT! You cant let those hurt feelings sit and fester inside of you. They will destroy you. If you want to make it, you better get ready to get hurt.

IV.     Make Sure of Your Motives

Why do you go to church? Is it for a girl? Is it for a boy? Is it for your parents? Is it for your preacher? Is it because your friends are there?
Who cares about God’s Will right?    Who cares about Holy Spirit Leading? Hopefully you prayed for God’s will and have sought for what He wants. If you want to Make it, Make sure of your motives.

V.     Keep Your Relationships Right

If you want to make it you better not run with the wrong crowd. Watch who your friends are, pick spiritual ones. Avoid the worldly ones. Be patient with dating. Its not a race, its your future. Wait for God’s Will. Don’t let the worldly people you work with influence you away from God. Keep your spirit toward the staff right. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, apologize, and appreciate. If you want to make it you’ve got to keep your relationships right. Got to Grow, Find a Way to Follow, Get Ready to Get Hurt, Make sure your Motive, Keep Your Relationships Right.

VI.     Walk With God

Probably the most important. I will be quick because you hear this often. You have got to read your Bible and pray. If you can’t walk with God now. you are in trouble. If you can’t get up early in Bible now. You are in trouble. If you can’t go soul winning in Bible now. You are in trouble. If you can’t stand for right now. You are in trouble. If you want to make it, You got to Walk with God.

VII.     Stand Against Satanic Attacks

By doing Gods Will you make the Devil really mad. He is not happy at all with your doing right. Write it down. The devil will attack you. He will attack your spirit. He will attack your desire. He will attack your study. He will attack your family. He will attack your church. He will attack your health. He will attack your walk with God. If you want to make it, Stand against Satanic Attacks.

VIII.     Study and Serve Strong

You are to be learning. Learn all you can. Can all you learn. You will need it!!  Go Soul winning, visit your bus route, fall in love with the ministry.
If you want to make it you must study and serve strong.

IX.    Repent Regularly

I know the Bible is taught in class, preached in chapel, preached on Wednesday night, at Saturday at meetings, and Sunday at church. But don’t ever get numb to the Holy Spirit dealing with you. When he speaks to your heart, obey. Make spiritual decisions.

X.     Never Quit

Decide right now. I will never quit. Cut it out of your dictionary.  Remove it from your vocabulary. Never Quit. No matter how hard it gets. No matter what happens. No matter what!

Never Quit.      You want become a successful Christian. Do you want to make it? Do you want to graduate Christian School? Bible College? Do you want to “make it”?

You Can!
