“Growing trees or chaff”.(Part 1.)The Bible mentions multiple times that the influences a person allows into their life forms who they are. Psalm 1, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. “We want our kids to grow up into oaks of the faith but are we investing that quality of influences. I grew up in Texas playing Texas football. My friends were football players but not just football players. I ran with the crowd that would eat, sleep, and drink football. They also happened to be the starters. They were who influenced me and I too ate, slept, and drank football and I was a starter. Today I care very little about football but very much about this Bible precept. I see basketball and soccer goals erected like shrines in backyards. PlayStation and game rooms which all have their place in a young persons life, but oaks are grown by the Word of God. A good wind will let you know what you’re growing. Wind many times in the Bible represents testing. The wind here in v.4 drives the chaff away. It will drive it away from truth. Away from God, the church, and the right. Are your investments taking you toward or away from these things. If a game will cause you to miss one of these things now, then work will take precedence and take you away later in life. The very job that God provided will keep you from Him and his influence. Be rooted in the Word.
