It is while the Apostle Mark is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with “Christ’s Enduring Majesty” that a person sees a peculiar object, that doesn’t normally go along with oars, nets, anchor, and sails with a fishing boat and that’s, “A PILLOW”. (Both the Apostle Matthew, Matt . 8:23-27, and the Apostle Luke, Lk 8:22-25, do not mention … this overlooked by most detail)
Evangelist D.L. Moody said, “Some people are like express trains, they skim along so quickly (in reference to the Bible) that they see nothing .”
Friend, you and I (those of us that are saved) had better make sure we have our own spiritual cushion for our own spiritual course!
There are 3 tremendous truths that revolve around this “pillow”
1. POISE IN THE STORM.
A tremendous truth that revolves around this “pillow” is poise in the storm, (“And he was in the hinder part of the ship” ) verse 38. If there is ever a moment for “ALL HANDS ON DECK” , it’s in “A GREAT STORM’ “, but Jesus is found in the stern out of the gash of the spray. CALM, COOL and COLLECTED. When you know the One who is stronger than any tempest, you’ll always have stability for every tempest. (Psa. 93:4) Poise in the storm
2. PEACE IN THE SHIP.
A tremendous truth that revolves around this ” pillow” is peace in the ship, (“asleep on a pillow:”) verse 38. How could Jesus sleep in a storm? The same way Daniel slept in a lion’s den (Dan. 6:22) and Peter slept in a prison cell (Acts 12:6)! The key to tranquility in troublesome times is thinking about God who has the strength to take care of troublesome times. ( Isa. 26:3) Peace in the ship!
3. PREDICTABILITY IN THE SAVIOUR.
A tremendous truth that revolves around this ‘”pillow” is predictability in the Saviour (‘”and they awake him”) verse 38. While the wild commotion and the water coming into the boat didn’t stir the Son of God, it was a word from His companions that brought Him to their aid and assistance. The fact that God has helped the believer yesterday means He could and would help them today. (Lam. 3:22) Predictability in the Saviour!
