Exercising Your Senses

Hebrews 5:14 “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
Esau is wrong. Jacob didn’t take away his birthright. Esau gave it away for a bowl of soup. Nobody can take away your joy today, but you can give it away over something insignificant in light of eternity. Nobody can take away your self-control today, but you can give it away for something worthless and destructive. Nobody can take away your convictions, but you can give them away for comfort and ease. Nobody can take away your patience/determination to finish, but you can give it away for frustration and doubts. Nobody can take away your freedom, but you can give it away for inaction today.
The first time, Esau gave it away. The second time, it truly was taken. God has said in Galatians 5:23 that you can have as much of the fruit of  the Spirit as you want. No man can take those away from us, but we can surely give them away. When you give up your joy to people or circumstances that have upset you, then you allow them to take away the blessing associated with that joy. If you let someone have it the first time, they will feel entitled to it the next time. Decide today that nothing can steal your joy, self-control, convictions and determination. Christianity is a decision, not an emotion or a label. Decide today that you’re not going to give up these things willingly or without a fight.
