Proverbs 22:29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
Strongs; Diligent: quick, prompt, skilled, ready. Websters 1828; DILIGENT, a. [L.] 1. Steady in application to business; constant in effort or exertion to accomplish what is undertaken; assiduous; attentive; industrious; not idle or negligent; applied to persons.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings. Proverbs 22. I love looking up definitions in my Webster’s 1828 because it often uses this old King James Bible to help define a word. The definition of diligent here includes the verse that we referenced at the beginning. We Christians should be diligent about our business; diligent employees, diligent soul winners, diligent Bible students, and diligent prayer warriors. I wonder if God ever looks at me as His employee and thinks “I need to just let this one go. Keeps calling in with excuses why he can’t work and when he does show up, he shows up late. He brings the other employees morale down with his complaining and discontent. Yep! I’ll let this guy go and find someone who’s diligent. Someone who’s excited about my business. Someone who comes in early and stays late. One who brings up other people’s spirit with their own great attitude. Someone who encourages others to be diligent.” How about it? Could we be more diligent about our Father’s business?
