Dangerous Pet

James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

When I was younger, I loved wrestling. I used to watch it with my grandpa and quickly became a big fan. There was one man who always brought an enormous python to the ring in a bag. The crowd would go wild! T-shirts, hats, dolls and everything else you can think. They loved “Jake the Snake” but especially the Snake! He would get it out and lay it on the other wrestlers after they were defeated. He would then lift it up and put it around his neck, holding the snake by its head and walk around the front row scaring the people with the live reptile show.

One particular match, Jake pulled out the snake and began the after match serpent show just as he had done for years. The snake seemed reserved as it curled in the corner. Jake grabbed the snake and draped it over his opponent, and for the first time, the usually unaggressive snake bit Jake’s opponent. When Jake pulled the snake away from the attacked opponent, the snake curled around Jake’s arm cutting off the circulation. As the arm began to discolor, security came rushed from the back, and a group of men rushed to save Jake’s arm and care for the bite on his opponent. While Jake had used the snake for years as a prop, his pet had become his master and eventually almost destroyed him.

The devil has a plan for your life that seems to be full of fun and excitement, but ends in destruction and pain. You will never be able to compartmentalize sin and play with it like a pet or a toy. It is a sickness and a danger. Beware!
