Confessing or Covering?

Proverbs 28:13“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

Since Adam and Eve, our first reaction when we realize we have sinned is to hide.

Cover up. Shift the blame. It never works. We still know we are guilty, and so does God.

Achan tried.
David tried.
Jonah tried.
I’ve tried.

There is a better way. From the Garden, God promised deliverance. He kept His promise. He sent His own sinless Son, Jesus Christ, to take our shame, to bear our guilt, to suffer our punishment, and to purchase our redemption.

Do you want freedom? Forgiveness?

Instead of trying to cover your sin, confess it to God. Forsake it. Seek His mercy. When we seek to cover our sin, God will uncover it. When we seek to run from it, it always catches up to us. There is no way to prosper when we are hiding sin. We may postpone being found out, but we will never prevent it, because God knows. When we confess our sin, He will cleanse us and cover it with His own blood. Do you want to hide? Take refuge in the mercy and love of God. Let Him cover you with His grace and forgiveness, and then walk in the light. “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
