Bring the Hammer!

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”

What a wonderful book the Bible is! The Bible is our guide book according to Joshua 1:8. The Bible is for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness according to II Timothy 3:16. The Bible is the very essence of what God is according to John 1:1. The word of the Lord brought Egypt to their knees and led Israel to freedom in the book of Exodus! The words that God spoke created the earth and aligned the planets. The Word of the Lord is right and true according to Psalms 33:4. Psalms 119:89 says that God’s Word is settled forever in Heaven! God’s Word is pure (Psalms 119:140). It will stand forever according to Isaiah 40:8. We are supposed to live by God’s words according to Matthew 4:4. Luke 12:10 says we are blessed when we keep the word of God. The Bible is the sword of the spirit according to Ephesians 6:17. It is a defensive weapon to block the attack of Satan, but it also is an offensive weapon that we must use In order to advance the cause of Christ. There are many descriptions for the Bible, and I believe that we can apply them to our lives based on
that illustration. Today in our text we are going to look at a unique description of the Bible: The Bible is a Hammer.

– A hammer is a device used to deliver a sudden impact to an object.

– A hammer has many other uses. Two of them are bending things and building things.

– Christian, the Bible is the hammer that needs to shape your life! Let’s apply this principle and see
where we need to bring the Hammer in life!

I. BRING THE HAMMER FOR HARD DECISIONS!

A. In I Kings 3:16-28 Solomon was able to solve a very interesting predicament that would have baffled the average king. What was the difference? Solomon had the wisdom of God on His side!

B. Christian, you too have that same wisdom available to you! If you would just look at what the Word of God says before you make a decision about something it would save you a lot of heart ache, and those hard decisions would break under the hammer of God’s Word!

C. Matthew 4:1-10

i. The Devil tempted Jesus three times, and each time Jesus rebuked him with the Word of God!

ii. When the devil tempts you, rebuke him with the word of God!

iii. When he comes to you and promises to make you more prosperous, rich, or famous if you put God second in your life then rebuke him with the Word of God!

iv. When you are faced with a Hard Decision, BRING THE HAMMER!

II. BRING THE HAMMER FOR HARD HEARTS! – Romans 10:9-13

A. Do you know who God used to write these words?

B. Acts 8:1-3 “And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every  house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.”

C. Saul, who had held the coats of the men who stoned Stephen. Saul, who had gone from church to church and threw Christians in prison, wrote the words “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!”

D. What happened to him? The words of God changed His heart!

E. The Maniac of Gadara in Mark 5:4 could not be tamed by any man, until He met Jesus!

F. That Family member, That Coworker, That Friend, That Unsaved person you meet out soulwinning that seems to be so hard towards the things of God- The only hope for them is the Hammer! It must break their Hearts! Pray for God to do something in their life! Share His Word with them!

III. Bring the Hammer to Build Your Life! – Joshua 1:8

A. The Word of God should be what shapes and forms your life! You should be dependent on it to guide you! There is a Reason II Peter 1:5 tells us to add to our faith! We are supposed to build on our faith! II Peter tells us that we are to add virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, Godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity to our faith! We learn about these things and how to do them through the Word of God!

B. Build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ! Stop using the world’s equipment to try to build your life! Get the Hammer! It is far more effective, and it will build something that will last!

Christian, let’s get back to using the Hammer in our lives! You want to build your life right? Use the Hammer! You want to see that person’s heart change? Use the Hammer! You have a tough decision to make? Use the Hammer!!!
