The Importance Of Proper Thinking

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Thoughts control our behavior and our attitude. If we think we are in danger, we immediately spring into action. When someone tells us we look great, that lifts our spirits. If they tell us that we do not look well, we start feeling down.
Some friends of the postmaster in a small Kentucky town decided to play a trick on him. One of them went to the post office and asked if he was feeling well. He assured his friend that he was, but his spirits dropped. Another friend went by and asked the same question. This time he started feeling a bit under the weather. Other friends dropped by and told him that he did not look well, and he started feeling really ill. He soon went home and went to bed. His thoughts had made him really sick.
Thinking the wrong thoughts can lead one into sin, for temptation begins in the mind. Thinking the right thoughts can help us grow in the Lord. In the first part of our text, Paul tells us to think on the following things, “... whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report.” Such thoughts do not lead one into sin. Neither do they cause discouragement or lead to defeat. We should think right, believe right, act right, and be right. That will please God and improve our quality of life.
