As Children of the King of Kings you and I can chose to live above the circumstances of life and experience lasting JOY! John 15:11 “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” Here are a few practical tips from God’s Word about how to have JOY.
1. Confess your sins! (I John 1:9) We will never experience God’s JOY in our lives without asking the Lord to forgive us when we fail Him. When we trust Christ as Saviour, God becomes our Heavenly Father, and our eternal destination (Heaven) is secure. However, while we are on this earth we will continue to struggle with our flesh; and our unconfessed sin will hinder our relationship with our Heavenly Father, just as disobedience from a son hinders a relationship with an earthly father. Confessing our sins to God daily brings JOY!
2. Serve Jesus by serving others! (Matt 25:40) The Bible tells us that there is great JOY in serving Jesus by serving others. Philippians 2:4 “Look not every man on his own things, but every man on the things of others.” You have heard it said that you spell “JOY” – Jesus, Others, and You. God’s mathematics work in this way… your JOY adds and multiples as you divide it with others.
3. Be around joyful people! (Prov 27:17) “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” We are influenced by who we chose to be around. We must avoid fellowshipping with those who have no JOY. Remember that misery craves company. We should seek to be joyful people and seek to be around joyful people so that we can “…Brighten the corner where we are!”
In God’s power, let’s determine to live above the circumstances today in the JOY of the Lord!
