Be Better (Part 3)

Daniel 1:20 “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.”

Daniel was captured and taken to a foreign land. When challenged to accept the ways of the world, he refused and followed the Word of God in his heart. When the time came for Daniel to be tested, he was found ten times better than the people of the world. We as Christians should strive to be “ten times better” as well. Here is how you can be better:

9. To be better we must be always living by faith. Daniel 3 gives us the account of the fiery furnace. King Nebuchadnezzar made the prideful decree that when the music plays, everyone was to bow down and worship the golden image of himself. He proclaimed that any man that would not bow would be cast into a burning fiery furnace. Three Jewish boys, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not bow to the wicked king’s commands, but rather chose to be thrown in the furnace. They said that they trust the Lord would deliver them even from such extreme measures. The three Jewish boys  would come out of the fire unharmed. We are going to be faced with “fire” in our lives, and the only thing that will get us through will be our continuous faith in God. When we place our faith in Him, He not only brings us out of the fire, He stands in the fire with us. Be Better. Live by Faith.

10. To be better we must be Consistent. Daniel 6 tells us about the consistency of Daniel’s walk with God. The King had signed a decree that noone could pray. Daniel didn’t let man’s decree discourage him from his walk with God. The Bible says he went to his room and opened his windows, just as he did aforetime, and prayed. When the wicked men saw Daniel praying, they immediately told the king. The king then commanded that he be thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel’s faith in God was so strong that the king himself said, “Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.” God sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions that would have otherwise been the death of Daniel. Daniel was delivered from the den of lions. In our walk with God, we face a roaring lion that walks about trying to devour us, but by being an every day Christian, we can shut the mouths of those lions. We can make a difference in the wicked world we live in by simply being “Christ-like” every day. Be consistent. Pray everyday, read everyday, witness everyday. Just be better every day… be consistently better.
