Daniel 1:20 “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.”

Daniel was captured and taken to a foreign land. When challenged to accept the ways of the world, he refused and followed the Word of God in his heart. When the time came for Daniel to be tested, he was found ten times better than the people of the world. We as Christians should strive to be “ten times better” as well. Here is how you can be better:

5. To be better we must be purposed. Daniel 1:8 says, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat.” Purpose is having a plan and sticking with it. Many will make decisions at big events, such as camps and conferences,
but those who keep the decisions, do so with purpose We must purpose in our hearts that we will do right. We must made the decision inside so that on the outside the decision is easy. We must purpose in our hearts that we will be better. Be better. Be purposed.

6. To be better we must be willing to sacrifice. Daniel was given the opportunity to have everything desirable. The king’s meat, the king’s drink, and the king’s care were all given to Daniel if he wanted. Though these things seem great, Daniel knew that to accept these provisions, would be turning his back on his home and his God. He purposed that he would sacrifice the king’s meat and drink to rely wholly on God. After being proven ten days, Daniel was found 10 times better. When you sacrifice your dreams and desires to trust fully on God, you will find God’s will to be ten times better. Be better. Be willing to sacrifice.

7. To be better we must not quit. Daniel 1:21 says “And Daniel continued…” Daniel was given ample opportunities to give up, but he continued. The Bible is full of men that had opportunities to throw in the towel, but decided they were going to finish the race. Success and failure are separated by one word, “quit”. From the kings meat, to the lions den, Daniel overcame trials and testing by determining that no matter how hard the circumstance, he would not quit. There may have been many hebrew boys eating meat and bowing down but not Daniel. He was not a quitter. Be better. Dont quit.

8. To be better we must give God the glory. Daniel interprets the King’s dream that no one could interpret. God had given Daniel the wisdom and insight to the dream and its interpretation and instead of exclaiming his own wisdom, Daniel spends four verses proclaiming praises unto God. Daniel would be exalted but would never place his own glorification above God’s. To be better, we must cease from self-glorification, and recognize God is the reason for our success. Without Him we can do nothing. Be better. Give God the Glory.
