And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess but be filled with the Spirit” Ephesians 5:18

There are several comparisons that we can make between a person who is filled with the Spirit. First, they are both under a power outside of themselves. Second, they are both fervent. An example is the disciples on the day of Pentecost  (Acts 2:13).  Third, they, both have there walk affected. If you are saved, regardless of your station of service, God wants you to be filled with the Spirit of God.

A preacher long ago said,  ” As a christian you will be filled with the Spirit when the Holy Spirit who is a resident of your heart becomes the President of your heart. ”

There are several scriptural, foundational , fundamental reasons why the believer should be filled with the Spirit.

1. To Be An Energized Preacher Acts 2:4

They had come together for a season of prayer when God supernaturally placed his power upon them.  The apostle Paul preached a fiery sermon to a multitude of unbelievers after the Upper Room experience. “Peter, standing up with eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, all ye that dwell at Jerusalem , be this known unto you, and hearken to my words” Peter “Lifted up his voice. ” That tells us that he was a loud, wide-open preacher. Every preacher ought to lift up his voice when he preaches. Preaching is not teaching Sunday School or a Wednesday devotional. At the preaching time a preacher should ought to open the Word of God. rear back and let it fly. But if I get loud like Peter, people will get upset! Its the volume of the preacher that bothers most people. Its what he says that bothers them. It has little to do with decibels or sound level, but it has everything to do with what he is saying  and what he is preaching from the Word of God. We need preachers who are energized by the Holy Spirit.

2. To Be An Effective Soul Winner Acts 4:31

The Sanhedrin had forbidden the believers to witness about the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ. They came together as a group to pray for fearlessness, and their prayer was answered. Every one of them was filled with the Holy Spirit and given holy boldness. Acts 4:33

many unbelievers were won to Christ as a result of their prayer, their power and their personal witness. You dont have to read very far into the book of Acts until you see people being saved and it can all be traced to those who were filled with the Spirit of God on the day of Pentecost.

Mark it down: When a believer is filled with Spirit of God, he will always be an effective soul winner. Boldness is not crudeness, it is confidence. The Spirits filling is all about winning souls.

3. To Be An Exemplary Christian Acts 6;3

The apostles had recommended to the church at Jerusalem that seven men who were filled with the Holy Spirit be selected to serve the church. They were perhaps the the very first deacons.  These men were chosen from a spiritual pool of prospects and placed in a very spiritual position. That is the way it always ought to be, regardless of what position is to be filled in the church. We never ought to choose a unspiritual person will not become spiritual because of a position in which he has been placed. It is always disastrous for that person and for the one placing him in that position.  We should desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit like dear Stephen so that long after we are gone, our names will bring to mind a life that was lived for right, for good and for Christ. Proverbs 22:1

Why should the believer be filled with the Spirit? To be an energized preacher. Why? To be an effective soul winner. Why? To be an exemplary Christian.
