Matthew 8:35 “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.”
They say one way to catch monkeys in the jungles of Africa is by getting a large gourd and cutting a hole in the side of the gourd, just barely big enough for a monkey’s hand to fit in it. Then they firmly attach the gourd to a limb of a tree so it cannot be moved. They then place some of the monkey’s favorite nuts inside the gourd. When the monkey discovers the gourd he will slip his hand in and grab a handful of nuts. Then he will try to pull his hand out, but he will not be able to. He will keep trying and trying and trying, but he will never let go of the nuts. Finally when he is completely tired out, someone walks up, throws a net over him and carries him off.
So many times we as Christians, miss out on the abundant life that Christ offers because we try to hold on to our way of life so tightly. The mentality of today is to grab all you can for yourself or you will not get what is really coming to you. If we live a tight-fisted way of life that is relying totally on what we can get for ourselves in life, than God says, you have lost it. One preacher said, “Let go and let God!” It is only when you realize young person that by releasing your grip on life and allowing Christ to crack open the gourd that you will see the bountiful riches Christ has prepared for you.
Just as that foolish monkey is captured because of his greedy ways, do not allow the world to cheat you out of God’s best. Life is serious and His will in your life is nothing to monkey-around with.
